1. iRobot s8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combination is a great option for homes with a variety of. It vacuums and mops well and is extremely navigable using both GPS and laser sensors and has a wide range of features and controls accessible through the app. It also comes with a useful feature that allows you to add cleaning zones to certain areas that require more attention and Keep Out zones where you don't want it to move. Like all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's expensive, but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It comes with a powerful battery that can clean a large area in less than two hours. It can switch between vacuuming and mopping with the press of a button. And, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the trash bin after each run, it automatically empties into a larger waste container above its charging dock.

It comes with a variety of other features that make it an excellent option for most homes with its intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses the camera as well as processor-powered smarts to see obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests, it was the best in avoiding objects such as power cables. However, it isn't as reliable at detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While Anker-owned Eufy has earned its name in budget robot vacuums, it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model that can also mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive array of modern features and is able to compete against much more expensive models.

The most significant selling point for Eufy with this machine is its laser navigation. Previous Eufy devices have constructed a rough map of your home utilizing infrared sensors and bumping into things but the X8's laser mapping system is much more accurate. It also takes a lot less time to build up a comprehensive picture of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is great for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It is able to effortlessly sling debris under the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are also very adept at hugging edges and corners, even though they are circular. It's not the best cat litter scooper, however as our tests show it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

There's a basic mopping mode which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming. This is great for spills that aren't serious, but you cannot regulate the amount of water that it uses. It does a good job at picking up pet hair. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, effective appliances. It features a stunning design, a great navigation system, and excellent cleaning power. There are a few niggles in its operation, which prevent it from being ranked as the best smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system that uses a LIDAR to map a room and a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and eliminating obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). After the room has been mapped and assigned, you can designate virtual no-go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also initiate an automatic clean or manually change the cleaning mode, watch a live feed from the cameras onboard and more on the main screen.

The RX2 has excellent sensors that detect furniture and other obstructions in a flash. Its sweeping and suction powers are outstanding, effectively getting rid of surface litter from carpets with medium pile and also removing embedded dust on bare floors. However, it's not exactly the most flexible robot available. It's not the most efficient climber and has issues with transition strips made of steel.

4. Shark ION

This budget robot is just like your typical robot but it's a step up in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to avoid obstacles and navigate. It can even detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum from stepping on steps makes it one our most agile vacuums.

It was able to walk over carpets with thick shags and was not stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). Its navigational skills were also impressive; its composite score in carpet and bare floors was better than the competition and it took in 98.5 percent of the surface pet hair and litter from our lab test samples.

The controls are less basic than the competitors. There's a cleaning button at the top, and you can start it by using the app or voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, create no-go zones and check its history of cleaning. Ion is covered in a stylish dark gray plastic that is both attractive and appealing in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easily accessible to empty, and the removal of the filters is also simple.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is an excellent option if you're looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and doesn't have any frills at a reasonable price. The model isn't equipped with smart features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping, which are available in more expensive models. Roomba 990 by iRobot

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's a top performer and arguably the most advanced robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping is a marvel to behold. It has more advanced automation than its competitors, such as the capability to set up virtual boundary markers with its mobile app. While its app isn't the most responsive and the 980 may spin a bit when crossing cables, it's an extremely efficient robot vacuum.

We love the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It uses this information to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

The 980's other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes, that pick up dirt from carpet and hard floors as well as a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. The sensor for floor tracking helps it navigate around furniture, along edges and on the stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It also automatically returns to the base station to allow for charging between sessions. While the 980's battery life and bin size aren't quite as good as those of other robot vacuums it's a solid and reliable machine that will keep your floors spotless for hours on end.
